Earlier this month on a trip back from Dunedin we stopped in at Waimate and found a fabulous old building, Quinns Arcade, which the local community are trying to restore back to it's original state. Built in 1906 this unique building is significant nationally and internationally and needs to be retained for the future. It was one of the earliest indoor shopping arcades in New Zealand before being converted into a picture theatre in 1918. Pro-Ject Waimate secured ownership of the building for the community in 2007 and is now working on a restoration plan with the aim to re-open this building to the public. Please sponsor this initiative. www.quinnsarcade.co.nz

Preserve is an on going project to produce a permanent visual record of hand painted building signage. Many of these are being erased from our cityscapes either being worn away by weather over time, covered as buildings have been repainted, disappearing as buildings are demolished or replaced with modern signage equivalents. This site will be updated regularly with my latest images from New Zealand and Australia and you are invited to contribute to this work also.
