November, 2010
On the 4th September 2010 at 4.35am a major earthquake registering 7.1 on the Richter scale hit our home town of Christchurch, New Zealand. Fortunately, given the time, most people were home in bed and thankfully there was no loss of life and not too many injured. Many of Christchurch's fine old buildings were destroyed or badly damaged and 2 months on now from the quake Christchurch continues to clean up and deal with this disaster.

Preserve is an on going project to produce a permanent visual record of hand painted building signage. Many of these are being erased from our cityscapes either being worn away by weather over time, covered as buildings have been repainted, disappearing as buildings are demolished or replaced with modern signage equivalents. This site will be updated regularly with my latest images from New Zealand and Australia and you are invited to contribute to this work also.
